Wollemi's Down Under
by Treesnibley
I was lucky enough to go to Sydney and Hobart last year and of course had to go and see the Wollemi's planted there. Here are some photos. I expected the one in the Sydney Botanic Garden to be the best but I thought that it was looking rather unhappy. Possibly it was suffering from the heat and lack of shade. The one by the Harbour looked much better but it was a shame that it had to be protected by such a big metal fence. Rather like being in a cage. The Wollemi in the Hobart Botanic Garden was the best of all. The climate there is more temperate and much closer to our own, which is encouraging for the future growth of the trees planted over here. Planted my own last weekend! It's with my Ginkgo and Metasequoia, so it should feel at home!!
