This photo was sent from a customer in Amsterdam who purchased a Wollemi Pine in March 2010 with comments regarding the growing of the tree:
The current size is: 1.58 meters. I made a huge mistake last year by putting it in the house at the beginning of winter and putting it outside without the protective polar cap (that it shed in the warm living room) way too early in the year again. The cold temperatures that it had to cope with all of a sudden made all the new growth die off and it went thru a real rough patch for many months after that. But being the amazing tree that it is, with so many ways of recuperating, it somehow survived that and came back stronger than ever it seems. I had it outside this winter. Not in the middle of the garden, but in a protective corner near the fence so the wind didn't have that much effect on it. Temperatures went as low as -17 some nights. But the actual 'feel' temperature was much lower. Sometimes felt like -30 with the harsh winds here in the Dutch Polder. On average I would say that it was round -1 in day time and round -10 during the winter nights. Some tips of branches did not survive the cold, but over the whole tree I would say that were 4/5 small tips. Also some leaves colored very dark brown, but for the rest it seemed to cope fine with the Dutch winter. As you can see it has come out of its winter sleep great this year. New growth on every branch. Sometimes 3 way splits at the end of a branch and the top is going super. All the branches that were affected by last year's mistake have new tips. I could not be more happy with it now! Also it has a double trunk and the 2nd one is really coming through now, so cool!
