UNQUESTIONABLY the BEST photographs by far of Wollemia can be found on http//forums.garden web.com/forums/load/conif/msg050828087254.html where "thefof" has taken some quite outstanding shots at the Mount Annan Botanic Gardens, outside Sydney, of precocious "flowering" of a young tree.
This should encourage all British growers to see what they can do !

Wollemi Christmas Tree
Here is a photo of a Wollemi dressed as a Christmas tree if anybody is interested in it for a Christmas card (No royalties etc.) - Thanks to George Milne for the picture
Wollemi Christmas Tree Photo Re: Photos
Indeed Wollemia is a great looking flower. Great aspect is due to it's tree like appearance. A tree in miniature. And everybody loves a bonsai. Well this is a nature made bonsai.

I know the Saatchi Gallery is renowned for eccentricity but to call Wollemia plant a "flower " must surely cap it all !! If I can transfer the well known photographs from Mount Annan, I'll try and post the reproductive bodies for general edification. APH.

I was lucky enough to go to Sydney and Hobart last year and of course had to go and see the Wollemi's planted there. Here are some photos.
I expected the one in the Sydney Botanic Garden to be the best but I thought that it was looking rather unhappy. Possibly it was suffering from the heat and lack of shade. The one by the Harbour looked much better but it was a shame that it had to be protected by such a big metal fence. Rather like being in a cage. The Wollemi in the Hobart Botanic Garden was the best of all. The climate there is more temperate and much closer to our own, which is encouraging for the future growth of the trees planted over here. Planted my own last weekend! It's with my Ginkgo and Metasequoia, so it should feel at home!! |
