Illustration of Male Wollemi Pine Cone
An Illustrations by John Pastoriza as part of an article published in Curtis's Botanical Magazine (Wollemia nobilis; vol. 24, issue 3, pages 155-161, published online 17 August 2007). Thank you to Ben Alofs for finding the Illustrations of the Wollemi Pine cones, they show the marked difference between the male and female cone. I have been given to understand that the female cone is produced above the male cone but as of 02-10-08 I have not seen or heard of a female cone being produced in the Northern Hemisphere.

The Wollemi Civic Esplanade on the edges of the Blue Mountains in Australia has consistently been a accepted destination for hikers and climbers who adore arrest the coast sandstone gorges. It lies 12 kilometres northwest of Sydney but charcoal decidedly cut off from the avant-garde world. But even so David Noble, a acreage administrator of the esplanade who was abseiling the canyons, was absorbed one afternoon to acquisition a timberline he had never apparent before. He bankrupt off a accept and took it aback to appearance botanical friends, but they were abashed by what they saw. Was it conceivably a breed accepted abroad in the world, accidentally alien to the civic park?
